PHA RWP uses vacant spaces for recreational and sporting activities

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) disclosed intentions to transform empty spaces beneath the Chandni Chowk flyover and the city’s four main parks into lively sports areas to encourage recreational activities, as per a news report on November 23.

According to the report, Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, the Director General (DG) of PHA, shared plans for the vacant area below the Chandni Chowk flyover to be designated as a cricket arena for the city’s young cricket enthusiasts.

Additionally, a basketball court slated for construction in the same vicinity. DG Ranjha highlighted the success of a similar project in the Commercial Market Park in Satellite Town. This place has already gained popularity as a cricket hub for the youth.

In addition, DG Ranjha outlined intentions to visually enhance the Metro Bus elevated road by painting all its pillars with a cohesive theme. This aims to beautify this vital route of the garrison city. Collaboration with the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) is pursuing to standardize the signboards of shops and commercial buildings on Murree Road.

As part of a larger beautification initiative, the PHA aims to utilize all available vacant spaces for recreational purposes. Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha has instructed relevant departments to transform Murree Road into an exemplary thoroughfare, with initiatives already in progress.

The beautification plan extends to the Metro section from Marir Chowk to Faizabad. It further focuses on enhancing green spaces and improving the visual appeal of Raja Bazaar. Moreover, road dividers in Raja Bazaar and other inner-city areas will soon adorned with trees and flowers to create a more aesthetically pleasing environment.
