APCMA reports a decline in cement sales in October

According to reports published in major newspapers on November 3, the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has documented a decline in cement sales for the month of October.

As per the details, cement sales saw a 5.78% reduction in October compared to the corresponding month in the previous fiscal year. In October 2023, the total cement dispatches amounted to 4.007 million tons, down from 4.253 million tons in October of the preceding fiscal year.

For October 2023, the local cement sales by the industry totaled 3.292 million tons. It indicates a 15.38% decrease from the 3.890 million tons dispatched in October 2022. However, there was a notable 97.33% increase in cement exports. Volumes surging from 362,350 tons in October 2022 to 715,028 tons in October 2023.

In October 2023, North-based cement mills dispatched 2.903 million tons of cement. It marks an 11.35% decrease compared to the 3.275 million tons dispatched in October 2022. South-based mills, on the other hand, dispatched 1.104 million tons of cement in October 2023. This reflects a 12.90% increase from the 0.978 million tons dispatched in October 2022.

North-based Cement Mills Dispatched

Within the domestic market, North-based cement mills dispatched 2.780 million tons of cement in October 2023, marking an 11.57% decline from the 3.143 million tons dispatched in October 2022. South-based mills dispatched 512,320 tons of cement to the local market in October 2023. Which represents a 31.41% decrease from the 746,927 tons dispatched in October 2022.

Exports from North-based mills decreased by 6.16%, with quantities dropping from 131,111 tons in October 2022 to 123,029 tons in October 2023. In contrast, exports from the South increased significantly by 156.01%, reaching 591,999 tons in October 2023, up from 231,239 tons in the same month the previous year.

During the initial four months of the current fiscal year, the total cement dispatches, encompassing both domestic and export sales, reached 15.892 million tons. This signifies a 14.55% upswing when compared to the 13.874 million tons dispatched during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year. Within this period, domestic dispatches amounted to 13.426 million tons. It demonstrates a 7.47% growth from the 12.492 million tons in the same period of the previous year. Exports also experienced a substantial increase of 78.53%, with volumes surging to 2.466 million tons. During the first four months of the current fiscal year, up from 1.381 million tons during the equivalent period in the previous fiscal year.

North-based mills dispatched 11.113 million tons of cement to the domestic market during the first four months of the current fiscal year. It indicates a 6.83% increase in comparison to the 10.402 million tons dispatched from July to October 2022. Exports from the North also saw a rise of 31.31% to reach 551,264 tons during July-October 2023. As opposed to the 419,823 tons exported during the same period last year.

The Aggregate Dispatches From North-based Mills

The aggregate dispatches from North-based mills saw a 7.78% increase, reaching 11.664 million tons in the first four months. The current fiscal year, up from 10.822 million tons in the equivalent timeframe in the prior fiscal year.

As for South-based mills, the domestic dispatches during July-October 2023 amounted to 2.312 million tons. This reflects a 10.65% growth. The 2.090 million tons of cement dispatched during the same period in the prior fiscal year. Exports from the South also experienced a substantial surge of 99.1%, totaling 1.915 million tons during July-October 2023. In contrast to the 0.962 million tons exported during the same period the previous year.

The overall dispatches from South-based mills exhibited a notable increase of 38.54%, reaching 4.227 million tons during the first four months of the current fiscal year. It is up from 3.051 million tons during the equivalent period in the previous fiscal year.
