Green Housing Affordable Resilient (GHAR)
This initiative is carried out in partnership with the provincial governments of Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). This will be executed by UNOPS Pakistan. It involves research and development, and interactive discussions between institutions and academia. Giving training, and communication focusing on passive techniques to improve building performance.
UNOPS Pakistan’s efforts toward climate-resilient housing revolve around three key elements: communication, training, and demonstration strategies. Furthermore, these components play a crucial role in promoting the adoption of green building codes for climate-resilient, sustainable, and inclusive housing, as announced by UNOPS recently.
With Pakistan’s rapid urbanization and construction growth, particularly in housing, UNOPS predicts the urban population to increase from 37% in 2020 to 60% by 2050. This upward trend expects to continue in absolute terms, with the national population estimated to grow from 225 million in 2021 to around 310 million in 2050.
Moreover, UNOPS has underscored the significance of engaging all stakeholders – academia, government entities, and professionals. Also, positioning itself as a leading technical authority in green and resilient housing initiatives.
