As per details, Rs 52 billion has been earmarked for Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment & Research Lahore. The approval was granted, although the Ministry had questioned the absence of an FEC and a detailed feasibility study. The CDWP stated that several pre-tests, like the soil test, topographical reports and the environmental scan, to assess the project’s viability before going ahead cannot be ignored, letting a country suffer the repercussions of having incurred so much loss.
The CDWP meeting, chaired by Minister Ahsan Iqbal, included several important Ministry of Planning, Development, and Reform officials. Furthermore, it included some federal ministers, relevant officials, and a technical team from different provinces. Five projects costing Rs 15. 35 billion were included, and three projects costing Rs 129 billion were proposed for the consideration of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Ahsan Iqbal further said the development budget has decreased compared to 2018 due to economic management from 2018 to 2022. On the specific areas for growth, he underscored the issues of sustainable development, economic balance, expansion of tax base, and export development. He also highlighted the debt servicing problem, which accounts for over fifty per cent of total expenditures.
