Sindh Cabinet Approves Construction of 6,500 Houses for Nullah Affected Individuals
During the Sindh Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the approval was granted for the construction of 6,500 houses on 248 acres of land, aiming to relocate those affected by the nullahs. Further, the estimated project cost is PKR 9.42 billion.
Sindh Government’s Commitment to Rehabilitation and Poverty Alleviation
CM Murad Ali Shah addressed the cabinet meeting. He emphasizes the commitment of the Sindh government led by the PPP to rehabilitate those affected by floods and encroachments. Additionally, he highlighted the implementation of special measures aimed at poverty alleviation. He highlighted the unique steps the government is taking to address poverty and the needs of the affected population in the Malir Development Authority (MDA) Area.
In a statement, UN experts expressed deep concern over the eviction of individuals residing near Karachi’s Gujjar and Orangi nullahs.
According to a statement by UN experts,
‘The actions taken by city authorities lacked sufficient consultation with affected residents, a relocation plan, and appropriate and equitable compensation for those who were displaced’.
