New garbage tax to impact all property types across Punjab

Punjab, July 30, 2024: The Punjab government has introduced “Garbage Tax” applicable to residential and commercial properties. According to the details, the residents of “kachi abaadi” will also be subjected to tax.

The residents of 5 marla property (rural area) will have to pay Rs 200 and Rs 400 for properties spanning over 10 marla to 1 kanal. Similarly, rural businesses are also not spared. Small shops will pay Rs 300 and medium sized business will be paying Rs 700. For big enterprises (factories, petrol stations, workshops etc) will pay Rs 700 garbage tax.

Urban areas are subjected to pay higher tax comparatively, for 5 marla houses, the tax would be Rs 300 and Rs 500 for houses spanning over 10 marla. For bigger properties (10 marla -1 kanal), the tax rate would be Rs 2000. For properties bigger than 1 kanal the tax rate would be Rs 5000.

Businesses in Urban areas , small shops will pay Rs 500 per month, medium Rs 1000, and big businesses will be paying Rs 3000 garbage tax.
