The Chief Executive Officer of the National Productivity Organization (NPO), Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, has invited the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) to collaborate on crafting a new industrial policy, as per a recent news report dated January 2nd.
During a meeting at the FCCI, CEO Chaudhry stressed the significance of enhancing the value of agricultural products. He announced the NPO’s intention to provide the FCCI with digital materials detailing available facilities for dissemination within the industrial community. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of NPO-organized workshops at the provincial level to educate local farmers about these resources. Additionally, he proposed the idea of organizing a workshop specifically in Faisalabad.
Addressing the issue of post-harvest losses, estimated at 35-40%, Chaudhry suggested that focusing on value addition and developing the processing industry could effectively mitigate these losses. He illustrated how value addition could significantly increase the value of agricultural products, citing the example of tomatoes escalating from PKR 10 per kg to PKR 250 through such measures.
