NHA to submit property details along M2

Pakistan, August 9, 2024: The Sindh government directed the National Authority Highway (NHA) to submit property details along M2. The disputed area ranges from Hyderabad to Karachi.

Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, hearing the petition filed between 2017 and 2021, asked NHA to submit property details along M2.

He asked the NHA counsel why the new motorway from Hyderabad to Karachi was not being constructed, instead declaring the superhighway a motorway.

As per details, several individuals have filed claims in court stating that they own the disputed land along the M2. The NHA, however, claims ownership based on the NHA Act of 1991. NHA filed a petition asking for the official transfer and control of over 7,641 acres of land along the super and national highways. Earlier, the Sindh government had reversed a previous decision and reduced the area that the NHA could control along these highways.

Justice Panhwar directed the release of a statement about whether the authority or its contractors issued leases to hotels, petrol pumps, or other activities.

The court also directed NHA to provide updates on new motorway projects from Jamshoro to Karachi, Multan to Sukkur, and Islamabad to Peshawar, including details about facilities and road conditions.

He further stated that citizens living in the vicinity of the motorway should be given access to all the basic facilities as part of the motorway scheme. The M-9 motorway has been a significant corridor for development and infrastructure projects. Therefore, authorities must maintain up-to-date records of properties and any ongoing or planned developments in the area.

The initiative stems from concerns related to land acquisition, regulatory compliance issues, and development projects. Stay connected with RBS for more updates on NHA to submit property details along M2.
