Islamabad: Japan offers 510 million Yen to Pakistan’s efforts to eradicate polio

The Government of Japan offers a grant of US$4.57 million to acquire the essential oral polio vaccine.

The most recent donation will use to buy 23.66 million doses of vaccination. It will enable the program to reach children under the age of five. Who reside in areas where the polio virus continues to be transmitted. Districts across the nation during immunization campaigns scheduled for 2021. The Government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) all signed and exchanged notes related to the grant.

According to Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel “In the past 30 years, Pakistan has made significant progress. We have significantly decreases the number of cases and impacted communities from the hundreds of children who were crippled by the poliovirus in the 1980s and 1990s.

Referring to the government’s commitment to polio eradication, the Minister stated, “The Program has successfully restricted virus circulation to endemic districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We are decisive and enthusiastic about eradicating polio by 2023.” Moreover, the Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Japanese government and partners for their ongoing commitment to polio eradication.

Since 1996, the government of Japan is providing funds to Pakistani Polio Eradication Program. Over the years, millions of kids have received life-saving vaccines thanks to long-standing relationships. To date, the Government of Japan has contributed more than US$238.66 million in grants and loans to UNICEF. Moreover, their aim is to promote the elimination of polio in Pakistan.

“The dedication of Pakistan to eradicate the poliovirus can seen clearly in the record low number of cases,” said Mr. Yasuhiro Tojo. He is Chief Representative of JICA in Pakistan. Moreover, he said “we are happy to be a part of this commendable initiative. We believe that by helping to get more oral polio vaccines, the nation can move closer to accomplishing this goal more quickly”.
